“The defense was able to set the tone for the second half,” Head Coach Dennis Cardoso says, “as our offense continued to roll.”

The MDB Bulldogs took control of their spring football game early against Legacy Charter out of Ocoee, Florida by scoring on their first two offensive possessions that bracketed an interception by junior Cooper Rickerson. The first scoring drive was capped off by a Giancarlo Vella three yard touchdown run. The second scoring drive was powered by a 30 yard air strike from junior quarterback Lamar (LJ) Smith to junior Hayden Welter, which set the offense up at first and goal from the one yard line. Junior Chad Simmons finished the drive with a touchdown run. He scored his second touchdown on a 67 yard run midway through the second quarter giving the Bulldogs a 21-7 halftime lead. The Bulldog defense held the Eagles to under 100 yards of total offense and only one touchdown.

“The defense was able to set the tone for the second half,” Head Coach Dennis Cardoso says, “as our offense continued to roll.”

Smith and junior Eric Harrison scored on runs of 35 and 50 yards respectively. Smith finished the night with over 100 yards rushing and an efficient 5-6 passing. Junior Matt Conod was also efficient finishing 6-9 in the air. The final score was 34-14. “This was a great game for us because we got to see a lot of new faces in game experience, and they exceeded our expectations,” Cardoso said. Players will work in the summer in a number of ways. “So many of our upper classmen are attending camps at universities from Iowa to Miami,” Cardoso says. “We also have three players going to compete in Ohio at the Football University Top Gun Camp.” The Bulldogs will compete in two seven on seven leagues over the summer. “We will cap it all off in late July with a mission trip with the Orange Avenue Church of Christ youth to Hayesville, North Carolina,” Cardoso says. Congratulations to the MDB football team. Bulldog fans are anxiously awaiting the season in the fall.
