Students are encouraged to use the Media Center. Preferred hours are 30 minutes before the start of school, during a ten-minute break, and after school for research, reading, computer use, book checkout, etc. Destiny is used to provide a Library Search of materials available to the students. The circulation of materials depends on grade level and is found on the Policies and Procedures page.
Elementary students earn AR points by reading a book on their grade level and passing the Accelerated Reader test.
The Media Center is open from 7:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
The Media Center holds a little over 12,000 books, videos, and audios. These books are on hand for the teacher, parents, and student resources. These books range from all sorts such as fiction, non-fiction, etc. Mount Dora Christian Academy utilizes the Renaissance Place program across all elementary levels to enhance our students’ skills with -an appreciation of- reading. The Media Center clearly labels all books with their appropriate AR designations. Renewed partnership with the W.T. Bland Public Library allows access to over 5,000 e-books and reference books. An application for a library card and instructions will be sent home with every student. Once all requirements have been completed and the student has their own library card, the responsibility falls to the parent or guardian of the student as to subject matter and age appropriateness of materials acquired by the student through the public library system.
