Implementing a Christian-based College Preparatory Curriculum

Mount Dora Christian Academy strives to be a leader in the pursuit of academic excellence.

Fine arts at MDCAWe know how important a college education is in today’s world — and how competitive admission can be to top universities. That’s why we take academic excellence so seriously. We constantly strive to improve our curriculum, the teaching/learning process and to better understand the needs of today’s students. All MDCA teachers hold college degrees (with more than half holding a master’s degree or higher) and are certified in their subject area. They are Christ-like role models who love and encourage their students to succeed.

Academic success isn’t left to chance but is based on solid research. This includes research by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, student surveys, parent surveys, and the NSSE Survey of Instructional and Organizational Effectiveness. Armed with this knowledge, MDCA teachers implement and align curriculum through teaching strategies, learning activities, instructional support, resources, and assessments shared by our common vision.

Actively engaging students in learning is Mount Dora Christian Academy’s overall strongest instructional area. This includes academic field trips, guest speakers, tutoring, Junior Achievement, technology, and media assistance.

Our students’ success is the best indicator of MDCA’s academic strength. Our students score well on assessment and standardized tests, and 95 percent of our recent graduates have been admitted to colleges and universities.

Preschool Academics

The MDCA Preschool offers classes for students two to four years of age. Preschool students have daily Bible and Chapel, recess, music and art. Our certified teachers use Learn Every Day (PK2 & PK3) and Splash into PreK (PK4) to prepare our youngest minds for the future. Standardized tests are given to Pk4 students to track academic progress throughout their time in preschool.

Elementary School Academics

The Elementary School focuses on strengthening students academic readiness with daily computer lab access, iPads in the classrooms, a rigorous curriculum, and standardized testing. Curriculum guides are used from academic publishers such as Saxon, Sadlier, and National Geographic. Elementary teachers facilitate the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment three times a year to ensure each student is getting the appropriate academic structure needed to grow and succeed in their courses.

Secondary School Academics

For our students’ convenience, dual enrollment classes are offered and taught on our campus. Advanced Placement (AP) courses and Honors courses in all subjects are also offered to our students beginning in 9th grade. The secondary school requires all 6-12th grades students to have an iPad with them each day to access MDCA’s academic portal for grades and assignments. With nearly 100% of our students attend the college of their choice, our alumni have attended University of Florida, University of Alabama and many other prestigious universities.
